“What is a DETOX Diet, and should I do it?”
(Learn what it is and how it can help you.)
The answer to the latter part of the question is yes, but do it safely. A “detox diet” can be safe and effective but it can be harmful as well. To understand this type of diet we have to understand the terminology behind it. Detox, short for detoxification, is the removal of potentially toxic substances from the body. A toxin (as in de-TOX-in) is a chemical or poison that is known to have harmful effects on the body. Advocates of detox diets say our bodies are continually overloaded with toxins from, for example, pollution, cigarette smoke, pesticides, a poor diet, food additives, alcohol and caffeine. As these toxins build up in our system, any number of health problems can occur, including weight gain, cellulite, headaches, dull skin, bloating, fatigue, lowered immunity, aches and pains, and a general lack of wellbeing. The process of detoxing helps to remove these toxins from the body with the result that you lose weight, feel healthier and begin recovery from all those other niggling health problems.
Generally, a detox diet is a short-term diet that minimizes the amount of chemicals ingested, (e.g. by choosing organic food) emphasizes foods and supplements that provide the vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants that the body needs for detoxification. It also includes foods and supplements that draw out and eliminate toxins. But remember urination and bowel movements are our body’s way of eliminating these toxins, so, most detox diets will increase the frequency of our natural elimination process. Make sure you see a doctor or healthcare specialist that uses natural whole food products and supplements for the detoxification aspect of the diet. The quality of the food supplements is crucial and must be taken seriously. And remember you should always consult a doctor before you begin a detox diet to make sure that it is safe for you to do. To start your detox diet call Dr. Jeff Bowne, D.C. and schedule a detox consultation. (661-288-2224, on Town Center Drive)

Prescription drugs, surgery, pain killers, etc, just numb your pain and don’t do anything to fix the problem, yet they are responsible for 106,000 deaths per year.
Eat less food. Eat healthier food. Exercise. Don’t smoke. Get adjusted by your chiropractor. These simple lifestyle choices all have a positive long-term impact on your health.
